Planning the following workshop and ritual:
This event at the culmination of the forum will take the Information exchange & Consciousness raising, the Visioning and the Strategizing of the forum into a concrete earth-based-spirituality public ritual wherein we will ask the Earth and the dieties to inform, guide, support and bless our work. At the close of Saturday’s strategizing of our next moves as a movement, this event will collectively give attendees the chance to deeply commune with the powers and wishes of the earth in order to gather strength and clarity of intent for the way forward. It will be open to participation to all who respect earth based-spirituality. Prior experience is not necessary.
Under the rising full moon, the session will begin as a workshop to develop the connections between our visions and strategies for social justice and the spiritual resources available to help these become manifest. The workshop portion will serve as an introduction to newcomers to these traditions, as well as a skill building opportunity for all. The ritual portion will ceremonialize our next directions coming out of the forum. There will be an opportunity for pledges and prayers, and participation in creating and dedicating a bioremediation brew for healing from disasters such as Katrina. It will end in a Spiral dance involving singing and drumming. Those with mobility challenges may be seated at the center for the Spiral dance.
The session is proposed for the full moonlight of Saturday, June 30, from 9pm-11pm, outside, in a nearby Atlanta park. This session is a collaborative offering by several organization including: Alliance of Community Trainers; Earth Activist Training (EAT); Atlanta Goddess Work for Social Justice (AGWSJ); The Living River; Athens Area Pagans.
Atlanta Goddess Work for Social Justice (AGWSJ) is a local Atlanta, GA collective bringing together activists who draw upon Earth / Goddess energy to ground and fuel their labors for local and global social justice. We are rooted in the Reclaiming tradition which is an international community of women and men working to synergistically combine earth-based spirituality and political activism for global social justice. We are diverse and multigenerational and practice consensus-based direct democracy and nonviolent activism. We come from a broad range of traditions and orientations but generally work from feminist earth-based spirituality perspectives. Our vision is rooted in the religion and magic of the Goddess, the Immanent Life Force. We see part of our activist work as teaching and making magic; the art of empowering ourselves and each other. In our classes, workshops, and public rituals, we train our voices, bodies, energy, intuition, and minds. We use the skills we learn to deepen our strength, both as individuals and as community, to voice our concerns about the world in which we live, and bring to birth a vision of another world that is sustainable, just, peaceful, anti-racist, feminist, earth-honoring, elder honoring, and structurally respecting of diversity.
